The Largest Opal Doublet Ever Recorded
This incredible Opal Doublet is from the Anadmooka Mine in Australia. It was found at a depth of 40 feet in Triangle Hill by Paul Christensen, a 1⁄2 mile from his house. It is the largest piece ever seen in Mr. Christensen’s 50 years of cutting history. It is truly an exceptional specimen as it is contoured and not flat. The Opal is flawless with no inclusions and has a natural Opal Matrix backing. The backing is cut precisely to the stone’s size.
The Opal has been thoroughly tested for temperature sensitivity. It has been boiled and frozen and has performed flawlessly in the temperature tests administered by Mr. Christensen. “This is a piece that will be passed from generation to generation,” Paul said. The eventual owner of this piece will have a true prized possession.
Mr. Christensen brought the stone to Kaufmann de Suisse, which is world renowned for their jewelry design work, in order to create a wearable work of art. The Opal Belt that Kaufmann de Suisse created brings life to one of the earth’s rare treasures.
In 1954 Queen Elizabeth was given a gift of a much smaller opal on the event of her first authorized state trip to Australia. The opal, also known as “The Queen’s Opal” was mined 1/2 mile from where this opal was found.
There is no other Opal like this one, a true one-of-kind piece for a one-of-kind man! What name will you choose for it?
